The Shawnee County Health Department is offering Baby Basics: Starting Well Prenatal Education Group\, a free six-class course presented in Spanish by labor and delivery nurses from Stormont Vail Health. \n\n\n\nParents and caregivers will learn about: \n\n\n\n\nInfant care\n\n\n\nBreastfeeding and formula feeding\n\n\n\nCommon pains\, changes\, and when to call the provider\n\n\n\nPregnancy\, labor\, delivery—and what to expect after having a baby\n\n\n\n\nAt each class they’ll also receive a goody bag with diapers and other items related to that week’s lesson. DESCRIPTION:The Stormont Vail Foundation’s signature event\, the BIG HEARTS Golf Tournament raises funds for Stormont Vail Health programs and services. Since its inception in 2001\, this annual event has raised more than raised more than $3.2 million thanks to the generous support of sponsors and friends of the tournament. \n\n\n\nThe 25th annual event will be held on Monday\, Sept. 15 at the Topeka Country Club. Funds raised by this year’s Big Hearts will benefit the purchase of advanced technology for a planned relocation and expansion of Stormont Vail Health’s Women’s Imaging Center. Equipment to be purchased includes contrast capable mammography\, which is currently not offered in our region\, and an Automated Breast Ultrasound unit to provide supplemental screening for women with dense breast tissue or at a higher risk of breast cancer. \n\n\n\nFor more information visit Stormont Vail Foundation – Stormont Vail Health \n\n\n\nFor sponsorship information contact 785-354-5995.

DESCRIPTION:Stormont Vail Health invites the community to its next Walk With A Doc event on Saturday\, Aug. 16\, 2025\, featuring Dr. Chad Tuchek\, neurosurgeon. The event will focus on how advanced technology is improving spine care and surgical outcomes at Stormont Vail. \n\n\n\nDr. Tuchek will discuss the use of robotic-assisted surgery in treating back and spine conditions\, including the Mako Spine robot—a state-of-the-art system that enhances surgical precision and supports safer\, more personalized care. Stormont Vail is one of only five health systems in the U.S. to offer this technology. \n\n\n\n“Walk With A Doc is a great way to connect with our community and share how we’re using technology to provide safer\, more effective care\,” Dr. Tuchek said. “We want patients to feel informed and empowered about their treatment options.” \n\n\n\nThe event is free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring questions.
