DESCRIPTION:Falls are the leading cause of injury and hospitalization for trauma — as well as trauma-related death — among older adults. If you are 65 or older\, have had a fall in the past year\, or live alone\, this workshop provides information on keeping balance\, the causes of falls\, and dangers to look out for. DESCRIPTION:This doctor-led group is a fun and safe place to hear briefly about an important health topic and enjoy a walk outside with a physician each month. \n\n\n\nThis Saturday\, join Dr. Shakila Tanjim for an engaging discussion on mental health\, during Mental Health Month\, while walking around Washburn University. The Stormont Vail Health Paw Squad therapy dogs will also be there! Participants should meet at the east side of Lee Arena. \n\n\n\nThe walk is open to the community. Participation is free and pre-registration is not required. \n\n\n\nAccording to the American Heart Association\, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can provide the following benefits: \n\n\n\nImprove blood pressure and blood sugar levels \n\n\n\nHelp maintain a healthy body weight and lower the risk of obesity \n\n\n\nEnhance mental well-being \n\n\n\nReduce the risk of osteoporosis Walk with a Doc (WWAD) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation. Topeka joins a growing list of communities worldwide that have started local Walk with a Doc programs. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training. \n\n\n\nThe person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who’s most likely to save him or her from bleeding to death. By learning how to STOP THE BLEED®\, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control bleeding once you learn three quick techniques. Take the STOP THE BLEED® training course and become empowered to make a life or death difference when a bleeding emergency happens.

DESCRIPTION:Do you have trouble seeing over the steering wheel? Reaching the gas and brake pedals? Checking blind spots? The Stormont Vail Health Trauma team is hosting a free\, interactive and educational CarFit session to teach you how to make your personal vehicle “fit” better. CarFit was developed by AAA\, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association to fix those issues to increase your safety and mobility when you’re on the road.   \n\n\n\nThe CarFit session is a quick\, yet comprehensive\, 12-point check of how well you and your car work together. During the 20 minute session\, our team will check certain areas to make sure they are being properly used like head restraints and seat belts. Drive on in and get your car fitted for you.  \n\n\n\nThis is not a driving test or mechanical inspection.

DESCRIPTION:This introduction to breastfeeding will provide pregnant women and their families an opportunity to learn all they need to know about breastfeeding before their baby is born. Classes are designed to help families prepare for the breastfeeding experience by providing information on how breastfeeding works\, how to get started\, problems that may arise and how to incorporate breastfeeding and working. \nThis class will be held in the Stormont Vail Health Auditorium where couples will be socially distanced. Masks are required. Please enter through the main entrance of Stormont Vail Health. \nNote: Enrollment includes expectant mother and one support person.
